Seton Hall women fall to Dartmouth
September 11, 2009
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.  – The Seton Hall women’s soccer team recorded nine shots including three on goal, however it was Dartmouth’s Becky Poskin that scored the lone goal as the Pirates lost to the Big Green, 1-0, in double-overtime.  The match marked the first of two being played by the Pirates in the Virginia Nike Classic Tournament this weekend.

In the 104th minute, Aurella Soloman crossed a pass that found Poskin who one-timed it passed Pirates’ goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) to end the game.  Pettigrew finished with three saves including a save on Peyton Tata two minutes prior to the winning goal.

After battling through a scoreless first half with three shots on goal by the Pirates (3-2) and two by the Big Green, the teams tightened up their defense in the second half and in the first overtime.  Pettigrew, who did not see a shot on goal in the second half, turned aside two in the first while her counterpart Colleen Hogan saved all four shots that came her way to pick up the victory.

Sophomore Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) led the Pirates offense with two shots on goal, while classmates Taylor Wilson (Rahway, N.J.) and Nicole Peterson (Federal Way, Wash.) finished with one shot apiece.

Dartmouth (2-1) finished with 21 fouls, including five in the first overtime, while Seton Hall ended with 15.  Dartmouth also ended the match with five corner kicks to the Hall’s one.

The Pirates will continue their play in the Virginia Nike Classic Sunday afternoon when they take on host school Virginia.  Kick-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
