Siena Off to Best Start in 11 Years

March 30, 2021

Siena Women’s Soccer is off to the program’s first 3-0 start in 11 years. The red-hot Saints scored three first half goals to cruise to a 4-1 victory over Saint Peter’s in Jersey City.

Ashleigh Sarafin, Emily McNelis, Rachel Sullivan, and Grace Dimkopoulos all scored for Siena (3-0) who is off to their first 3-0 start since the program’s first MAAC Championship Season of 2010. Named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier Tuesday, Leslie Adams made three saves for the Saints who’ve outscored the opposition 11-1 to start their unprecedented unique season.

Sarafin finished with a match-high three points in adding an assist to go along with her 17th minute goal to open the scoring. McNelis made it 2-0 Siena exactly six minutes later, connecting once again on a corner kick from Deanna Lomino. The goal, which proved to be the game-winner, was McNelis’ team-high third in three contests, while Lomino paces the squad with four assists.

Sullivan capped the first half scoring in the 36th minute, finishing a cross from Julianna Kissane. Kissane also set up the Saints’ final goal along with Morgan Camarda, which was scored by the younger Dimkopoulos for her first collegiate tally.

Saint Peter’s (0-2) got on the scoreboard late, securing an 88th minute goal from Jazmin Brown to avoid the shutout.

Siena has now won 22 of their last 23 against the Peacocks, while outscoring Saint Peter’s by an 88-10 margin over that time.

Following the match, it was confirmed that the Saints will return to action Thursday at Niagara at 5 p.m. The match was rescheduled after previously being postponed last week.
