Mountain West Announcement

Colorado Spring, Colo. --- The San José State women's soccer team is predicted to finish second out of 12 teams according to the 2017 Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The annual preseason poll is made up of votes from the 12 Mountain West head coaches reflecting a predicted order of finish for the teams during regular season play.

"Being voted at the top is a direct reflection of the hard work our past teams have put in to create a competitive environment at San José State," said head coach Lauren Hanson. "We are appreciative to be thought of as a top contender in the Mountain West, and we'll continue to chase our goal of winning the league and being a NCAA playoff contender."

The Spartans with 108 points were edged out by predicted favorite San Diego State with 110 points. Both teams received three first place votes.

Following San José State is UNLV with 101 points and five first-place votes. Utah State is predicted to finish fourth, receiving one first-place vote.

The Spartans were also predicted to finish second in last year's poll, which turned out to be correct as the team went 7-3-1 during league play to earn a #2-seed in the MW Championship Tournament.

San José State opens up Mountain West play this year with consecutive home matches against Utah State (Nov. 22) and Boise State (Nov. 24).

The regular season home opener is set for August 20, against UC Santa Barbara. Tickets will be available at the gates to the new Spartan Soccer Complex. Fans can also visit the Spartan Ticket Office website or call 408-924-7589 to purchase tickets in advance.
