KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team (12-0-0 overall, 8-0-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) held onto its No. 1  ranking in NCAA Division II, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire announced earlier today.

The Skyhawks, who first climbed to No. 1 a week ago, won a pair of 1-0 road games last week, defeating then No. 14 Metro State on Friday and pesky UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday.

“We’ve watched the rankings change so much the last couple of weeks that its nice to hold onto the No. 1 spot,” said third-year FLC head coach Oige Kennedy. “We just want to make sure we’re still No. 1 in the RMAC and control the conference.”

Fort Lewis hits the road for a match at Colorado Mesa (3-9-1, 3-6-0) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Field. The Skyhawks then play a pair of home matches this weekend. FLC hosts No. 18 Metro State (7-4-1, 5-3-0) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and Regis (7-2-1, 4-2-1) at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s a tough stretch for sure,” said Kennedy. “We know that Colorado Mesa had a great result on Sunday beating Metro away from home. They’re going to come out on a high. We’re really looking forward to coming back to Durango after a long stretch of games on the road and facing Metro and Regis.”

The RMAC continued to place three teams in the Top 25 in the sixth coaches’ poll of the season: No. 1 Fort Lewis, No. 18 Metro State, and No. 23 Colorado Mines (7-3-1, 5-2-1). Regis also received votes.

The Skyhawks rank highly amongst NCAA Division II leaders. Senior midfielder Thomas Hoang leads the nation in assists (10) and ranks second in assists per game (0.83). Senior goalkeeper Ryan Wirth leads the nation in goals against average (0.333) and ranks fifth in save percentage (.889).

As a team, Fort Lewis leads the nation in winning percentage (1.000) and goals against average (0.333), and ranks third in shutout percentage (0.67), third in save percentage (.899), and fifth in total goals (31).

Additionally, the NCAA Division II regional rankings were announced today. The Skyhawks remain No. 1 in the Central Region.
