Skyhawk striker Alexander named RMAC Players of the Week

October 4, 2011

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fort Lewis College forward Jordan Alexander was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, RMAC Assistant Commissioner Sarah Meier announced today.

Alexander, a 6-foot-1, 160-lb. sophomore from Cambridgeshire, England, scored three goals last week for the Skyhawks. He had two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 win at Colorado Christian last Sunday and another in a 4-1 win at then-No. 20 Colorado Mines last Friday.

“It is great to see Jordan get some recognition for his performances this season and he has been very consistent in front of goal scoring,” said third-year FLC head coach Oige Kennedy. “And judging by his most recent performances this last weekend he is making a steady recovery from some early season injuries that had curtailed his time on the field this year. He has a natural ability to score goals and I think there is going to be more to come from him in the upcoming games.”

Alexander ranks among RMAC leaders in game-winning goals (second, two), goals (third, six), goals per game (third, 0.60), total points (fourth, 14), and total points per game (fourth, 1.40).

Fort Lewis is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II poll, released earlier today by the National Soccer Coaches Association of American and Continental Tire. It immediately puts its top ranking to the test by traveling to No. 14 Metro State (7-2-1, 5-1-0) at 3:30 p.m. Friday and to UC-Colorado Springs (5-5-0, 3-3-0) at noon Sunday. The meeting is the first of the year between the Skyhawks and Roadrunners. UCCS gave FLC its biggest scare of the season in a 1-0 Skyhawk win in Durango on Sept. 25.
