DAYTON, Ohio – A goal in the 34th minute proved to be the match-winner for Wright State over the Morehead State soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. The 2-0 loss dropped the Eagles to 0-7-1 on the season, while the Raiders improved to 4-2-3.

“I think our young team has started to figure out our system,” Head Coach Warren Lipka said. “It was a tale of two halves, and the possession and effort in the second half was great for us.”

Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd led the Eagles with six saves, while MSU was paced offensively by sophomore Elizabeth McSparin with two shots and sophomore Macy Cobb with one shot on goal.

After 34 scoreless minutes, the Raiders struck first when freshman midfielder Kalee Thompson slipped a ball just inside the post and out of Floyd’s reach. The shot was one of six for WSU in the half, while the Eagles posted one from Cobb.

MSU jumped out to a 4-1 lead in shots midway through the second half, but the Eagles fell short of the second half comeback. The Raiders added an insurance goal in the 89th minute from freshman Ini Umotong.

“When you push offensively late in the game, second goals just happen,” Lipka added. “However, it was a great last 45 minutes of soccer for us going into the conference season.”

The Eagles are back in action next Sunday when they begin Ohio Valley Conference play at Eastern Kentucky. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available on MSUEagles.com.
