HOUSTON- The University of Houston soccer team suffered its first loss at home Friday evening after being defeated by East Carolina 3-0. The Cougars are now 4-6-2 on the season and 0-2-2 in Conference USA.

"We are caught in between as a team, and we got ahead of ourselves," head coach Chris Pfausaid. "Tonight was a reminder that we need to focus on the little things and play better as a team. We tried to take over the game one-on-one in the first half and got exposed. We got beat by a very good team tonight."

The Pirates would get off to an early 1-0 lead in the first minute after senior midfielder Caty Butler shot over keeper Cami Koski's head from 25 yards out. ECU was quick to answer again in the third minute when senior midfielder Hali Oughton headed in a ball of a corner kick by redshirt sophomore Danielle Romano.

East Carolina would answer one more time in the first half and go into the locker room with a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, the Cougars responded well and did some nice things, but it wasn't enough. The two teams would play scoreless soccer for the remainder of the match.
