HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team tied Marshall, 1-1, in double-overtime Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium. The Cougars are now 4-6-3 on the season and 0-2-3 in Conference USA play.

"It was a tough tie," head coach Chris Pfau said. "We had the momentum going into the half, but we didn't take care of it in the second. We are scared to death of failure and that is what is really holding us back. Until we can embrace failure and just go out there and play, this is what is going to happen."

Houston came out strong on both sides of the field in the first half and got some good looks at the net. Despite outshooting their opponent by 4-1 margin, the Cougars were unable to get on the scoreboard.

After play resumed in the second half, the Thundering Herd would strike first at the 47:35 mark when junior midfielder Casey Walsh scored from close range. The Cougars knotted the game with 15 minutes left in regulation after a Marshall foul lead to a penalty kick by junior midfielder Kylie Cook.

As the regulation clock wound down, neither team was able to break the stalemate. Houston was forced into two overtimes for the third time this season.

The match marks the first tie between the two teams in program history with the all-time series at 4-3-1 in Houston's favor.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will travel to take on UAB at 7 p.m. on Friday in Birmingham, Ala. and to Tennessee to face Memphis at 1 p.m. on Sunday in their last road trip of conference play.
