Spartan men wrap up big home weekend
NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University pieced together a strong second half Saturday, Sept. 7, to earn its first 2013 win.
The Spartans (1-1-1) were in the midst of a scoreless halftime draw from a determined Kentucky Christian University crew after the opening 45 minutes. However, as has been the case early this year, Coach Dave Good’s squad turned up the offensive pressure in the second frame.
MU produced 12 of the 13 overall shots and struck for two goals for a 2-0 win. Frsshman forward/midfielder Chris Hosier (Kokomo, Ind.) broke up the draw in the 62nd minute.
After KCU goalkeeper Chace Adkins made a big save on a well-targeted strike by senior forward/midfielder Bertin Gisagara (Detroit, Mich.), the ball richoted off Adkins’ hand and downwards where Hosier rushed in from the left side and headed it into the net. Senior forward/midfielder Connor Seavers (Auburn, Ind.) drilled the second goal less than five minutes later, as he took a pass from defender/midfielder Josh Collier (Anderson, Ind.) and hitting a rope into the upper right hand corner of the Knights’ net.
Hosier and junior forward Loic Youth (Detroit, Mich.) shared the overall shots’ lead with three each. Sophomore goalkeepers Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.) and Eric Cupp (Lafayette, Ind.) combined in keeping the Spartans’ sheet clean.
Manchester University takes to the road for the first time this season when they make the brief trek to Huntington University Tuesday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is 5 p.m.
