St. Cloud State charts 2-1 win vs. MSU

A pair of goals by Claire Shea were the driving force behind the St. Cloud State University soccer team's 2-1 double overtime victory at #2 ranked Minnesota State University on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The victory improved SCSU's record to 3-2-2, 2-1-1 NSIC, while the #2 nationally ranked Mavericks fall to 6-1-0, 3-1-0 NSIC.  

The Huskies clinched the win after a classic defensive battle in the closing minutes of the second half and through the first OT session.  In the second overtime period, Shea collected the game winner with a goal at 103:46.  She was assisted on the play by Monica Majeski, who gained her first point of the season on the play.

In the first half, MSU took a 1-0 lead with a goal by Brynn Desens at 24:01 with an assist to Jenny Vetter. 
 
The Huskies tied the game in the second half with a goal by Claire Shea at 55:46.  She was assisted on the play by Nicole Friis.  This was Shea's second goal of the season and it was Friis' first assist of the year.
 
Shea now ranks first on the team with three goals, two assists and eight points, while Friis has one goal and one assist in 2019. 
 
The last time SCSU played a game in Mankato, the Huskies posted a 2-1 victory over the Mavericks on Sept. 16, 2016. 
 
 The Huskies will continue their 2019 season on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. with an NSIC match at Husky Stadium against Wayne State College.  SCSU will complete the home weekend on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a 1 p.m.  match at Husky Stadium against Augustana University.  Tickets for both matches are available at the gate and all SCSU students get in FREE with a valid SCSU ID card.
