St. Cloud State Falls in Season Opener to Fort Lewis

Sioux Falls, S.D. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team (0-1) opened its 2011 season with a tough 4-0 loss to Fort Lewis College (1-0) on Friday, Sept. 2.  The match was played today at Augustana College's pitch in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Fort Lewis gained the game winner at 17:10 with a goal by Hayley Hollenga, with an assist from Paige Martinez.  FLC pushed its lead to 2-0 at 38:12 of the game with a goal by Megan Striedel (Hollenga on the solo assist).

In the second half, Hollenga made it 3-0 with a goal at 56:30, as Sam Weiss had the assist for FLC.  To complete the attack, Michelle Felten scored an unassisted goal at 80:07 to make it 4-0.

In the nets, Kenzie Hanzlik posted 11 saves for the Huskies and Amanda Raso had four saves for FLC.  In the game, FLC outshot the Huskies 21-6.

SCSU will continue its season with the home opener at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4 against Winona State.  Tickets for the game at Husky Stadium are available at the gate...all SCSU students with a valid SCSU student ID card are admitted FREE to all regular season home games in 2011.
