St. Cloud State Gets First Win for New Coach

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) scored a 1-0 victory at Northern Michigan University in the coaching debut of Gretta Arvesen on Friday, Sept. 5 in Marquette, Mich.  

The Huskies charted the game-winning goal at 61:40 on an unassisted own goal that resulted after a corner kick by SCSU's Gabby Fleck at 61:32 and a header by Kara Espinosa.  The goal proved to be the only offense produced in the contest and it was enough to help the Huskies earn the win in their first game of the 2014 season.

"We played with a collective spirit today," coach Gretta Arvesen said.  "Our continued pride in the details and discipline to play our way, were key to the solid team performance."

HUSKIES' HIGHLIGHTS:
• Sophomore netminder Brittany Plombon gains the shutout with six saves in the game.  Her effort helps Huskies offset being outshot 13-10 in the contest by NMU.  The 4th career shutout for Plombon.

• First career victory for new SCSU head coach Gretta Arvesen.
 

• Huskies will continue their weekend trip ot the U.P. with a game on Sept. 7 at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich.
