St. Cloud State opens season with 2-1 win

St. Cloud, Minn. --- The St. Cloud State soccer team (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) deafeated Northern Michigan University 2-1 in its first home game of the season at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies took an early lead when freshman forward, Maria Kass, scored her first career goal and put one past the NMU keeper at 6:50. Bailly Drayton had the solo assist on the play.
NMU came back with just minutes left in the first half to send the game into intermission with a 1-1 score at 38:35.
Kass stepped up late in the second half when she sent the Huskies ahead after finding the back of the net to tally her second goal of the game and her career at 57:57.
Junior goalkeeper, Brittany Plombon started the year off with a strong performence between the pipes and chartered her first win. She had one save in the contest as SCSU outshot the Wildcats 16-4.
The Huskies return to the field on Sunday Sept. 6th at 1:00pm for a home game against Michigan Tech.
