St. Cloud State rolls to a 1-1 tie vs. UMD
St. Cloud, Minn. --- The St. Cloud State Women's soccer team took on the University of Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday Sept.15. and the final result was a 1-1 double OT decision in both team's NSIC opener for 2015. SCSU is now 1-1-1, 0-0-1 NSIC, while UMD is 1-2-1, 0-0-1 NSIC.
The Huskies led the first half in shots having put 7 on net as UMD put up 5. The game was sent into the second half scoreless but both goalies had been busy.
St. Cloud was first on the board when freshman forward,Maria Kass, found the back of the net at the 64:02 mark of the game. This tallied her third goal this season and the assist was awarded to freshman defense, Maria Witte, who racked her first point in the red and white.
UMD followed late in the game when they put one past SCSU goalkeeper, Brittany Plombon, with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game.
The game went into two 10 minute sudden death overtimes but neither team came out on top.
Both goalies were tested in the 110:00 minutes contest as SCSU's, Plombon, faced 13 shots and made 7 saves. SCSU put 18 shots on the net and UMD goalkeeper tallied 9 saves.
The Huskies return to Husky Stadium on Oct. 19 for a game against Northern State University at 11:00 a.m.
