October 25, 2015

The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers (10-2-3, 3-1-1 NEC) defeated the Sacred Heart University Pioneers (1-10-1, 0-5-0)  3-0, Sunday afternoon on senior day at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5.

Junior Sal Barone started off the scoring for the Terriers in the first half. Seniors Cyril Coisne and Vincent Bezecourt added insurance tallies in the second half.

Red-shirt senior Jack Binks made three saves and recorded his 11th shutout of the season, which tied the single season record held by Dragan Radovich (1978) and Mario Fava (1988).

Both teams spent the first part of the first half trying to establish field position. Vincent Bezecourt created the Terriers first chance in the 28th minute but his shot was denied by a diving Tucker Hackett.

The Terriers broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute. Barone received a pass from freshman Tomas De Andrade, made a run into the box, and fired a shot past Hackett.

St. Francis Brooklyn looked to add an insurance tally two minutes later. After a foul outside of the box, Bezecourt rang a free kick off of the cross bar.

The Terriers came back with chances in the second half. Senior John Makaya sent a cross across the box to junior Yussef Olajide, who was taken down in the box which resulted in a penalty kick. Cosine converted on the ensuing kick to increase the SFBK lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute.

The Pioneers came back looking to cut into the Terriers lead in the 67th minute.  Murray Cockburn found the ball on his foot inside of the 6-yard box, but he was denied from point blank range by Binks.

SFBK countered quickly, after a few passes down the field Coisne touched the ball to Bezecourt, who broke in one on one and beat Hackett to make it 3-0.

The Terriers return to action next Friday, October 30th, when they head to Teaneck, New Jersey to take on the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
