October 27, 2009
AMBLER, Pa. – Kate Yurkovic scored at the 85:47 mark Sunday to lift Temple to a 1-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over St. Louis(w) at Ambler Field.

Despite a scoreless first half, both teams were active offensively. The Billikens (7-8-3, 4-4-2 A-10) outshot the Owls (6-11-1, 2-8-0 A-10) 11-8 overall and 5-3 in shots on goal.

The game settled into more of a defensive battle in the final 45 minutes, with each team managing just four shots. Yurkovic tapped in the game-winning goal after collecting the rebound of Jackie Krostek’s 20-yard attempt that hit the crossbar.

Senior Amber Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) made six saves in goal for the Bills, while Temple’s Gillian Kacsuta turned away all eight Saint Louis shots on frame. Seniors Kelly Waeckerle (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway West) and Kristen Sapienza (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph’s) each registered a game-high five shots. Four of Waeckerle’s five attempts were on goal.

The Billikens return home to conclude the regular season Friday, Oct. 30, against Charlotte. Game time is 7 p.m. at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
