Stags Back To Winning Ways, 2-0 At Siena
The Fairfield University women’s soccer team got back to its winning ways with a 2-0 win at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena College on Sunday afternoon. The Stags improve to 8-4-2 on the year and remain in a first-place tie in the MAAC with 15 points, at 5-1-0 against conference opponents. The loss drops the Saints to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
Ashley Small got the scoring going for the Stags in the 23rd minute, chipping the ball over the keeper from 20 yards out. Lauren Reilly headed a long ball to Small at midfield and she made a solo run the remainder of the distance. It is Small’s second career game-winner against Siena, in as many goals as she scored the lone goal in last season’s 1-0 Fairfield win.
Jac Ley scored her third of the year in the 51st minute as she collected a rebound from her own shot that was blocked and put it away for the 2-0 advantage.
Kathleen Early minded the Stags net for the entire 90 minutes and came away with four saves. The shutout is the fourth of the season for the sophomore, who improves to 5-3-1 on the season. Taylor Booth made five saves, against two goals allowed, in net for Siena.
The Stags continue their four-game road trip on Saturday, when they travel to New Rochelle, N.Y. to face MAAC foe Iona College. That game is set for noon at Mazzella Field.
