Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Leonardo Fernandes (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored two goals, and freshman Alejandro Fritz (Budapest, Hungary) assisted on a pair of goals to lead the Stony Brook men's soccer team to a dominating 4-0 win over Buffalo Sunday at LaValle Stadium.

Coach Ryan Anatol's Reaction

"I thought today was a convincing performance by our players. We moved the ball well, created chances, and today, we took those chances and turned them into goals, and that was a positive for us."

Goal Recaps

  • In the 18th minute, a Buffalo foul gave Fernandes a free kick in the middle of the field about 25 yards away from the goal. Fernandes cooly slammed a shot around the Bulls defensive wall into the top left shelf of the net for the score.
  • In the 33rd minute, Fritz moved the ball forward in the box toward the net and chipped it over a defender to Fernandes, who then kicked it high over the Bulls goalkeeper and just under the crossbar for a goal.
  • In the 42nd minute, Fritz was again moving the ball forward and played it to senior Berian Gobeil Cruz (Montreal, Quebec) in the box. Gobeil Cruz then took a shot from about four yards away near post that ended up passing the goalkeeper far post.
  • In the 68th minute, a defender's deflection in the box ended up on the foot of freshman Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.), and he whacked the rebound volley into the back corner of the net from about 10 yards out.
