MACON, Ga. – Ethan Summers has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts this past weekend for the Lipscomb men’s soccer team, as announced by the league on Monday.

“Ethan plays such an important role on the team that doesn’t always show up in the stats,” Lipscomb head coach Charles Morrow said. “He does so much behind the scenes that goes without recognition and unseen. From a coaching perspective it is awesome to see a player like that have a day and really the year he is having.”

Summers, a native of Ogden, Utah, scored his first two career goals in Sunday’s 3-2 overtime victory over Oral Roberts. Summers also tacked on an assist in Friday’s 3-2 loss to Elon.

The fifth-year senior’s first career goal in 65 games was the equalizer in the 88th minute to help push the Bisons into the overtime period. In his second goal of the game Summers picked up the rebound off teammate Kyle Erickson’s shot on goal and placed a diving header into the net for the Bisons overtime victory.

For the entire weekend, Summers had four shots placing three on target to go along with his two goals and one assist.

The honor is the first of Summers’ career while William Morse of Florida Gulf Coast was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week.

“For a guy who has always found a place on the field in the starting 11 but really a role player in that 11, he is a big part of the success that we have,” Morrow said. “It is always nice to have a player that does those things have a breakout weekend and year. We are absolutely happy for Ethan.”

The Bisons return to the pitch in the Belmont Tournament on Friday with a 3:30 p.m. match against Bradley at E.S. Rose Park in Nashville.
