TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Nora Kervroedan's goal in the 24th minute broke a 1-1 tie and helped lift host and No. 1-ranked Florida State to a narrow, 2-1, victory over visiting Cal State Fullerton on Friday night in front of 1,123 fans and an ESPN3.com Internet audience at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.

The Titans lost their second-straight match against nationally ranked opposition in falling to 1-5 overall on the year, while the Seminoles remained perfect in moving to 5-0 in 2012.

"I am very proud of the way our team played tonight," Head Coach Demian Brown said. "To travel as we did and play the No. 1 team in the nation as well as we did is a credit to our program.

"Obviously we came here to win so, we are not completely satisfied, but we will be able to use a number of things from this experience as positives as we continue on in the season."

All the scoring came within the first 24 minutes of the match with Kervroedan's strike at the 23:16 mark putting Florida State ahead for good. Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Tiffany McCarty notched assists on the play as headers from the two found Kervroedan just outside the six on the right-hand side and she put it away for her second score of the year and the eventual winning goal.

FSU's Jessica Price gave the Seminoles the lead just three minutes in as passes from Brynjarsdottir and Jamia Fields found Price on the left side and she put it home for the 1-0 lead. The Titans then drew even in the 12th minute as senior Ann Marie Tangorra netted her second goal of the season off a turnover at midfield.

Junior Erica Mazeau, who tallied her fourth assist of the year on the play, fed Tangorra, who put home her only shot of the match to make it 1-1.

The score was only the third allowed by the Seminoles this season and the first in 364:50 dating back to their season opener against Minnesota on Aug. 17 (a 3-2 win).

Florida State outshot Cal state Fullerton, 16-5, including a 10-1 advantage in the opening half. Sophomore Rebecca Wilson finished with two of the team's five shots, with Tangorra, Erica Mazeau, and JeAnne Mazeau accounting for the other three. Junior Lindsey Maricic, making her first start of the season in net, made five saves for the Titans, who were also whistled seven times for offsides.

Fields and McCarty each had three shots apiece for the Seminoles while Kelsey Wys turned away three shots in net.

All six of Fullerton's matches this season have been decided by a single goal and Friday's result was the Titans' fourth loss via a 2-1 score. Cal State Fullerton has been outscored this season, 11-7, but the Titans have yet to be shutout in six contests thus far.

Fullerton returns to the friendly confines of Titan Stadium to open a five-match homestand on Sunday (Sept. 9) at 12:30 p.m. against Creighton.
