Tchilao and Jones Lead Beavers to Pac-12 Win

October 8, 2017

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Lead by the forward duo of junior Don Tchilao (Chandler, Ariz.) and senior Jordan Jones (Pacific Grove, Calif.) the Oregon State University men’s soccer program turned in its first Pac-12 win of the year against San Diego State on Sunday morning at Paul Lorenz Field.

“We made some changes in the lineup and I thought the guys played with a lot of energy,” said head coach Steve Simmons. “Sundays are always tough and we always want to hold the home field.

“I think we were a little disappointed in how we managed the end of the game but we’ll get that fixed. Now it’s a matter of getting recharged and ready for the next one.”

A long through-ball from redshirt-sophomore Eric Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) found its way Tchilao on the right wing and the Chandler H.S. product pushed his second goal of the year just over the outstretched hands of Adam Allmaras to give the Beavers (4-7-0, 1-2-0 Pac-12) a 1-0 lead at the 29th minute against the Aztecs (4-8-0, 0-4-0 Pac-12).

Not to be outdone, sophomore transfer Michael Swift (Memphis, Tenn.) rolled a cross to Jones on the left post in front of the net and the senior toed his third goal of the season past the keeper for a 2-0 OSU lead in the 59th minute.

Oregon State resisted a late push forward from SDSU to hold on to the 2-0 final.

Freshman Pablo Gatinois (Madrid, Spain) got his first start in the box for the Beavers and posted four saves to preserve his first career clean sheet. Diaz provided the lone team save of the day for his second stop in as many weeks.

Oregon State will head south later this week to take on California on Thursday, October 12. The game will broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks with kickoff set for 4 p.m. PT.
