TDS Women's Division I Top 25: Oct. 12
Once again, the Florida State Seminoles are back on top.
FSU matched up against North Carolina on Sunday, a decisive ACC meeting between two powerhouse programs with postseason ambitions. And while there was little to separate the two sides, Florida State forward Berglind Thorvalsdottir netted a second half breakthrough, pouncing on a direct ball from goalkeeper Cassie Miller to open the scoring. The one goal was all the impervious Seminole back line need, as they won 1-0, their fifth victory in a row.
Checking in at No. 2 is West Virginia. The Mountaineers enjoyed an unbeaten road swing in Big 12 action, dominating Oklahoma in a 0-0 draw (outshooting the Sooners 33-7) before beating Texas Tech 4-1 on Sunday.
Seeing off its only challenge of last week, BYU sits at No. 3, while Virginia and Penn State round out the top five. The Cavaliers enjoyed a successful two-game road swing in ACC play, topping Clemson 2-0 on Thursday, following that up with a 1-0 victory against Wake Forest.
Santa Clara jumped into this week's rankings at No. 24, while Washington nestled back in at No. 22.
