TDS Women’s Division I Top 25: Sept. 28
Even in the face of its daunting ACC schedule, North Carolina continues to roll on.
The Tar Heels take over the No. 1 spot in this week's TDS Women's Top 25 update, after dispatching Syracuse and Wake Forest in rainy conditions at home. Freshman Dorian Bailey nabbed what turned out to be the game winner in a 3-1 defeat against the Orange, while Summer Green provided the only tally in Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Demon Deacons.
Florida State stretched its unbeaten run in ACC play to 14 games, picking up a 3-1 win at home against Clemson, before edging Notre Dame 1-0 on the road in a grueling encounter. Freshman Megan Connolly's bright start to the season continued, as she scored a goal and had three assists across those two victories.
There was little trouble for No. 3 West Virginia in its Big 12 opener. The Mountaineers made it nine wins and shutouts in a row, outshooting visiting Texas 31-5 on the way to a 2-0 triumph at home.
Upsets were prevelant over the last week. No. 6 Notre Dame topped Virginia in Charlottesville before the former lost to FSU. Auburn charged up the Top 25 into the No. 12 spot after defeating Florida 3-2 on Sunday, while Rutgers saw its shutout and winning streaks snapped, losing on the road against Illinois and Northwestern. No. 21 Texas A&M dropped a pair of road SEC matches, falling 2-1 against No. 11 South Carolina and losing 2-0 to Georgia on Sunday.
