TDS Women's Player of the Year Trends
With the women’s college soccer season kicking off later this week, here is a look at the numerical trends behind the players who have won the TDS Player of the Year award.

0 - No freshman has ever won the award.
0 - No goalkeeper has ever won the award.
1 - One winner has gone on to win a World Cup Medal. Morgan Brian won the World Cup with the USWNT in 2015 & 2019.
1 - One winner has gone on to win an Olympic Gold Medal. Korbin Albert won the Olympic Gold with the USWNT in 2024.
1 - Only one defender has ever won the award. That was Kadeisha Buchanan in 2016 after her impressive center back play led West Virginia to a fairy tale College Cup final.
2 - Two sophomores have won the award. Korbin Albert of Notre Dame in 2022 and Catarina Macario of Stanford in 2018.
2 - Two players have won the award twice. Morgan Brian (Virginia 2013 & 2014) and Catarina Macario (Stanford 2018 & 2019).
2 - Two winners went on to be No. 1 NWSL draft picks. Morgan Brian was selected by the Houston Dash in 2015 and Andi Sullivan by the Washington Spirit in 2018.
3 - A Stanford Cardinal won the award three years in a row starting with Andi Sullivan in 2017 and Cataria Macario in 2018 & 2019.
3 - Three POTY winners have gone on to become senior internationals for other countries. Teresa Noyola (Stanford 2011) went on to make 40 appearances for Mexico. Kadeisha Buchanan (West Virginia 2016) has played 154 matches for Canada. Rocky Rodriguez (Penn State 2015) has earned 107 caps for Costa Rica.
3 - Three recipients have also won the TDS Freshman of the Year award. Morgan Brian won the rookie award in 2011, Andi Sullivan in 2014, and Catarina Macario in 2017.
4 - Four juniors have won the award. Kate Faasse of North Carolina in 2024, Lexi Missimo of Texas in 2023, Catarina Macario of Stanford in 2019, and Morgan Brian of Virginia in 2013.
4 - Stanford leads the way with four trophies spread between Catarina Macario winning twice, preceded by Andi Sullivan and Teresa Noyola. Virginia and Penn State are tied for second with two each.
4 - There have been four winners born outside of the United States. Teresa Noyola (Mexico), Rocky Rodriguez (Costa Rica), Kadeisha Buchanan (Canada), Catarina Macario (Brazil).
6 - Number of players who won the award and national championship in the same season. Teresa Noyola (Stanford 2011), Raquel Rodriguez (Penn State 2015), Andi Sullivan (Stanford 2017), Catarina Macario (Stanford 2019), Kelsey Turnbow (Santa Clara 2020), Kate Faasse (North Carolina 2024).
7 - The domestic winners were born in seven different states. Arizona is the only one represented twice (Kelsey Turnbow & Kate Faasse). The others are Hawaii (Andi Sullivan), Utah (Mikayla Colohan), Illinois (Korbin Albert), Texas (Lexie Missimo), Georgia (Morgan Brian), Maryland (Christine Nairn).

Teresa Noyola (Stanford 2011), Christine Nairn (Penn State 2012), Morgan Brian (Virginia 2014), Raquel Rodriguez (Penn State 2015), Kadeisha Buchanan (West Virginia 2016), Andi Sullivan (Stanford 2017), Kelsey Turnbow (Santa Clara 2020) and Mikayla Colohan (BYU 2021).
9 - Eight schools have had a player win the award. Stanford (4), Virginia (2), Penn State (2), Notre Dame (1), BYU (1), Santa Clara (1), Texas (1), West Virginia (1), North Carolina (1).
14 - There have been 14 recipients of the award, starting with Teresa Noyola in 2011.
32 - The 32 goals Catarina Macario scored in 2019 are the most by a winner in a single season. Her 23 assists from the same year also set the record as did the 87 points garnered.
193 - Number of appearances the winners have made for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Christine Nairn (Penn State 2012) - 2, Catarina Macario (Stanford 2018 & 2019) - 25, Korbin Albert (Notre Dame 2022) - 26, Andi Sullivan (Stanford 2017) - 52, Morgan Brian (Virginia 2013 & 2014) - 88.
