Temple Ends Season With a 5-0 Loss at UConn
STORRS, Conn. – Temple men’s soccer’s 2014 season ended with a 5-0 loss on Saturday night to UConn at Morrone Stadium in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Owls end the year with a 2-14-2, 1-6-1 record while the Huskies (10-6-2, 6-1-1) advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament next Friday.
The Owls put two shots on goal in the first half but couldn’t capitalize on the scoring chances. Junior Jared Martinelli made a nice save in goal off a corner 10 minutes in to prevent a goal, but the Huskies scored nine minutes later. Kwame Awuah chipped in a goal past redshirt-senior goalkeeper Bobby Rosato to start the scoring for UConn. Cyle Larin headed a ball in off a free kick in the 40th minute to stretch their lead to two.
UConn added three more goals in the second half. Ethan Vanacoredecker scored in the box in the 69th minute to make it 3-0. Edir Dagraca scored on a header off a cross in the 79th minute, and Christopher Musco scored the last goal on a breakaway with less than one minute left.
Temple had nine shots in the game with two shots on goal in the first half and one more in the second. Seniors Willie Chalfant and Chas Wilson had two shots to lead the Owls in their final game donning the cherry and white.
Rosato had two saves in the game.
