Terps women blank WVU in spring opener
March 21, 2012
The University of Maryland women's soccer team kicked off the Jonathan Morgan era off in style with a 4-0 shutout of two-time reigning Big East champion West Virginia in the Terps 2012 spring opener on March 11.
"Today was a great way to start off the spring competitive season," said Morgan. "We scored four quality goals, defended well as a team, and got all of our kids some quality playing time. It was great to see the girls execute the ideas we've been giving them in training. That's all I can really ask of them as their coach. It was a good team performance for our first outing."
Rising senior Danielle Hubka got things started for the Terps, converting the team's first goal off of an assist by rising junior Hayley Brock.
Maryland built a 3-0 lead on unassisted goals by rising senior Olivia Wagner and rising junior Kristen Schmidbauer.
The capper came via a pair of rising sophomores as Alex Doody finished off a pass from Cory Ryan.
The Terps continue their spring schedule on Sunday, April 1 with a 4 p.m. match vs. future ACC foe Pittsburgh in College Park.
