Terriers Notch 5th Straight NEC Tourn. Berh
The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers blanked the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, 1-0, clinching their fifth consecutive appearance in the Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament. The Red & Blue improved to 10-4-1 and also secured their fifth straight season with double-digit victories.
The Terriers, now 4-0-1 in the conference, maintained sole possession of first-place with two matches remaining. The loss drops CCSU to 5-8-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the NEC.
St. Francis Brooklyn accounted for the scoring in the 28th minute when they got a free kick inside the CCSU half. Senior midfielderFederico Curbelo sent the kick into the area where classmate Collyns Laokandi headed the ball back across the goal line. Another senior, Leo Folla, headed the ball home to make it 1-0. It was the second goal of the season for the Manhattan native.
St. Francis Brooklyn nearly doubled the lead in the 50th minute when CCSU senior keeper Carson D'Ambrosio came out of his area, but Terrier junior Amir Islami was unable to capitalize on the opportunity as his shot went off the post and bounced away harmlessly.
The Terriers outshot the hosts by a 10-7 margin.
St. Francis Brooklyn will honor its five seniors prior to their final home game against Bryant this Sunday at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Red & Blue will then complete the regular-season against the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds a week from Saturday. The Blackbirds are 4-1-0 in the league and will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday evening.
