Colorado College used a pair of goals from senior forward Matt Fechter and a dominating performance by its defenders to defeat Otterbein University, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers won the 14th Annual Bill Boddington Memorial Tournament with a 2-0 record, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 6-0 during the three-day tribute to the founder of the men’s soccer program at CC.

The Colorado College defense allowed just six total shots by the Cardinals, only two of which got through to senior goalkeeper Brian Graf. It marked the fourth time this season an opponent took fewer than 10 shots in a game against the Tigers.

Fechter struck for the only goal CC would need in the 29th minute on a penalty kick after junior midfielder Sean Parham was taken down near the right post by an Otterbein defender.

The All-American put a low shot past junior goalkeeper Kyle Ripma at the left post for what proved to be the 10th game-winning goal of his career. Fechter now is 3-for-3 on penalty kicks during his four years.

Ripma kept the Cardinals within striking distance by making nine saves.

Fechter added an insurance goal in the 84th minute when he one-timed a cross from senior forward Daniel Wright into the upper corner on the right side. It marked the sixth time in his career he has scored two or more goals in a game.

At the other end, Graf had to make just two saves en route to his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career.

The Tigers finished with a 30-6 advantage in total shots and a 9-1 cushion in corner kicks.

CC improved to 5-2-0 overall, while Otterbein slipped to 3-4-0.

Colorado College opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next weekend with games at Southwestern University and Trinity University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
