Tigers Claw to a 3-1 Win over Adrian in Women's Soccer
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season (2-1) at Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 10) as the Tigers capitalized on a couple of breaks to build a 3-0 lead.
Kailey Striebel scored the game's first goal at 22:30 unassisted as Adrian goalkeeper Chayna Wallace saw a shot deflected off her and the post before crossing the line to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers quickly took a 2-0 lead just 1:18 later on a scrum in front of Wallace. Sheryl Chambers scored for Wittenberg and Adrian had a tall mountain to climb.
Taylor Goss then put the matchup pretty much out of reach with a penalty kick goal at 70:07. Sam Barker hit the post with a shot with under two minutes to go and then she got a breakaway feed from Erin Weide and scored with two seconds left to end the shutout.
Wittenberg held a 14-4 edge in shots on goal as Wallace made a season-high 11 saves. Barker had two shots on goal and Weide and Ellery Karsten also had a shot on goal.
