MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After not allowing a goal for 431 minutes of play, the Middle Tennessee soccer team (4-4-2, 1-1-0 C-USA) dropped a 2-0 decision to Colorado College (7-3-0, 2-0-0 C-USA), snapping a four-match winning streak Sunday afternoon at Hayes Soccer Stadium.

The first period was a close battle as MT fired off two shots, while Colorado College had three. Two of the Tigers’ three shots in the opening frame were on goal as MT goalkeeper Kelsie Brouwer scooped up a pair of saves.

The Blue Raiders’ four-game shutout streak stayed intact until the 56th minute, when Kaeli Vandersluis crossed to Jessie Ayers inside the box. The header by Ayers was her fourth goal of the season, giving Colorado College a 1-0 advantage and ending 431 minutes of scoreless play for the MT defense. Prior to Sunday’s contest, the last time Middle Tennessee allowed a goal was during the 74th minute against UCF Sept. 8.

The Tiger offense wasn’t done just yet though as Sarah Schweiss crossed to Alexis Long, who had an open look past a diving keeper. The goal gave Colorado College a 2-0 lead in the 63rd minute for Long’s first goal of the season.

Middle Tennessee had a few solid looks on the day, but shots sailed high and wide, including one by Amalie Anderdal during the 33rd minute that floated just high of the goal. MT had seven shots on the day compared to CC’s nine. The contest came down to shots on goal though as the Blue Raiders had two, while the Tigers launched seven.

Kate Loye led the Blue Raider offense with three shots. Loye was responsible for both of MT’s shots on goal, coming during the 47th and 89th minutes.

Between the pipes for Colorado College, Kate Scheele snagged two saves in the second period, while logging 90 minutes. She improved to 7-3-0 on the year, collecting her seventh shutout of the season and fifth-straight.

Brouwer grabbed three more saves in the second period for a total of five on the day, while falling to 4-4-2 on the season. The sophomore still boasts a 0.80 GAA this season.

Colorado College edged MT in the corner kick contest, 3-2 with all three coming during the second half, while Middle Tennessee had one in each period.

The Blue Raiders return to action Friday, Oct. 4, traveling to FAU for a 6 p.m. Conference USA matchup.
