BRISTOL, Tenn. – On another rainy afternoon at Parks Field, the King University men's soccer team squared off against Carson-Newman University in a nonconference tilt. The Eagles netted three goals in the first half and played solid defense in the second half to hold on for the 3-1 road victory.

The Tornado (1-4-1) started on the attack early asEli Carrasco had a shot saved in the fifth minute, and Ryan Cobain had his first of five shots saved by Eagle keeper Rumwald Le Guevel in the eighth minute.

The play then moved to the other end of the field as Carson-Newman (3-2) had a par of shots blocked in the 10th minute. The Eagles broke through in the 16th minute when Ross Frame took a pass from Rurik Pereira and ripped a shot into the right side of the net to give Carson-Newman a 1-0 lead. Frame struck again in the 22nd minute, this time from the left side as he laced a shot then caromed off the right post into the cage for his second goal of the season.

The Eagles kept pressure on King, and broke through again in the 38th minute as Kristian Speake took a drop pass from Sindre Welo 30 yards from the net and ripped a shot into the right side of the net to stretch the Eagle lead to 3-0.

The Tornado turned the tide in the second half asChris Hicks opened the frame with a shot that was saved in the 48th minute. King then had another barrage in a five minute stretch, starting with a Carrasco shot in the 50th minute. The Tornado registered two more shots in that time, and had two corner kicks, but couldn't find the back of the net.

King's best scoring opportunity may have come in the 77th minute as Cobain had a header go off the post. The ball than came back to his foot and he ripped a shot, but Le Guevel recovered to make the save and keep the score at 3-0.

The Tornado finally got on the board in the 87th minute as Cobain took a pass from Eric Wilkeningon the right side. Cobain then slid his shot past the keeper on the lower left side to cut the deficit to 3-1.

In the game, King outshot Carson-Newman 17-16, including 10-2 in the second half. The Tornado also had six corner kicks to the Eagles' three. Le Guevel ended the match with 11 saves while King's Kari Sveinsson posted six saves.

The Tornado will be in action again on October 2 when they host Limestone College in a Conference Carolinas match at Parks Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
