Buies Creek, N.C. - It only took the William and Mary Tribe men's soccer team 11 minutes and 54 seconds to get the three goals it needed on Saturday night to beat the Campbell Camels, 3-2, in Buies Creek, North Carolina. With the wild victory, the College improves its record to 1-1, while Campbell falls to 0-2.

Box Score

The College used a pair of first career goals from junior Ian Stowe and redshirt freshman Caleb Thomas, and a third score from senior Price Thomas to beat the Camels, who scored back-to-back goals in less than two minutes to tie the match late before W&M got the game winner with less than three minutes left.

In the first half of the match, both teams saw their share of opportunities to get on the board, with neither team able to break through.

The Tribe's best opportunity to get on the board came in the 18th minute, when Price Thomas fired a shot on frame that got past the Camel goalkeeper, but ricocheted off the post.

In the first stanza, the Green and Gold out-shot the Camels, 5-4, but Campbell was able to get two shots on-goal to the College's one. W&M also had more corners than the Camel, getting four to Campbell's one.

In the second half, the Tribe's offense started to click. In the 75th minute, the College earned a corner kick which was taken by senior Roger Bothe. The corner was cleared by the Camels, but the ball found Stowe, who fired a shot from outside the box towards goal. The shot was deflected on its way towards goal but found the back of the net, giving W&M a 1-0 lead. The score was the first of Stowe's career.

William and Mary kept the pressure on the Camels when on a counter attack, Price Thomas fired a shot from 30 yards that found the back of the goal, giving the College a 2-0 advantage. The goal was Thomas' first of the season.

In the 78th minute, the Camels got on the board with a nice 1-2 combination in the box. Brian Urioste delivered the pass to Jason Keever for the goal, cutiing the Tribe's lead to 2-1. Seven minutes later, Campbell tied the match at 2-2 with a counter-attack of its own when Vince Petrasso scored his first goal of the season for the Camels.

The back and forth battle between the two teams continued less than two minutes later. With the College on the attack, a loose ball in the box made the goalie come out, but before he was able to get his hands on it, Caleb Thomas buried a game-winning goal to give the Tribe a 3-2 victory.

For the match, the Camels out-shot the Tribe 10-9, but the College was able to get six of its shots on frame, while Campbell only had four.

Next up for the William and Mary men's soccer team will be the ODU/Sthil Soccer Classic, where the College will look to defend the championship it won there last season. The Tribe will play Temple on Friday, September 11, at 4:30 p.m.
