Trine Drops Final Road Game
OLIVET, Mich. - In their final road game of the season, the Trine University women’s soccer team fell to Olivet 3-1. The Thunder return home for their final two games with a 1-14-3 overall record and 0-12-2 in the conference.
Olivet started with the heavy winds to their backs which they used to their advantage scoring two goals in the first half.
Olivet would add another goal in the second half as the ball bounced down and off the crossbar before finally trickling in.
Down 3-0, the Thunder would go on the offensive fury as they pushed the Comet defense. Senior Ruth Feliciano (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) would score her first goal of the season in the 58th minute. Feliciano sent a rocket from the far right side of the penalty box, finding the back of the net inside the far post. The senior defender has now scored in each of the three seasons she’s been a member of the team.
Trine would continue to press in the second half, out-shooting Olivet 11-10, but were unable to find the back of the net again.
In a homecoming of sorts, freshman Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) made eight saves on the afternoon. Fellow freshman Madi Sabo (Grass Lake, Mich./Grass Lake) also made a spectacular defensive save, using her body to stop a would-be goal.
Freshman Skyler Reed (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Carroll) led the Thunder with four shots on the day but fellow freshman and hometowner Kayla Case (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) had a game-high three shots on goal.
Olivet out-shot the Thunder for the game 21-14, but Trine put over half their shots (8) on net.
Trine will now return home where they host Saint Mary’s on October 27 at 12:00 p.m.
