Trine Falls in OT on PK
ANGOLA, Ind. - After a nearly 40 minute lightning delay, the Trine University women’s soccer team fell in overtime to Kalamazoo 1-0. The Thunder drop to 1-12-3 on the season and 0-10-2 in the MIAA.
The Thunder were out-shot 12-1 in the first half and 13-1 in the second half, but the defense behind freshman goalie Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) held strong not allowing a goal in regulation. Trine was able to attempt three shots in regulation, each came on target.
With eight minutes left in the second half, both teams were pulled off the field due to lightning. When play resumed, neither team would find the back of the net.
In overtime, Trine would be called for a foul inside the box, giving Kalamazoo a penalty kick just 2:43 into the extra frame. The Hornet’s Natalie Reszka would convert on the penalty kick ending the Thunder’s hope for an overtime victory.
Davis made 11 saves on the afternoon between the pipes, marking the fifth time she recorded double-digit saves in a game.
Freshman Kayla Case (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) led the Thunder with two shots and Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) added Trine’s other shot attempt.
Trine will take a week off before traveling to Adrian on October 23 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
