Trine Women Nets First Win of the Season
Trine Nets First Win of the Season
NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - It was a rematch of Thursday night’s football game, with the same result, as the Trine women’s soccer team defeated Manchester 1-0. The Thunder are now 1-1 on the season.
Trine earned their first win of the season on the back of senior goalkeeper Jen Wall (New Haven, Ind./New Haven) who made seven saves to earn the shutout victory.
Just 12 minutes into the first period, it was sophomore Alyssa Goodnight (Atlanta, Ind./Hamilton Heights) who found fellow sophomore Kristin Elliott (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) from 20 yards out, where she buried it in the right corner of the net. Although that would be all the scoring in the game, both sides had several opportunities throughout the match to find the back of the net.
In the opening half Wall was able to turn away four Spartan shots on goal. In the second half, both sides had their chances to score but both goalies played solid turning away several goal opportunities.
The Trine defense played stellar as they did not allow Manchester to take a single corner kick. The Thunder tallied 13 total shots compared to just eight for the Spartans. Both teams had seven shots on goal for the game.
Trine will return home where they will celebrate Labor Day by hosting Anderson University for 5:00 p.m. start.
