Trine Women’s Soccer Falls in Overtime

September 24, 2013

OLIVET, Mich. - The Trine University women’s soccer team fell in a hard fought game to Olivet College 4-3 in overtime. The loss drops the Thunder to 1-6 on the year and 0-5 in the MIAA.

Trine opened the scoring as freshman Jami Patterson (Argos, Ind./Argos) scored her first collegiate goal of her career just 10:05 into the game off an assist from sophomore Skyler Reed (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll).

Olivet however would answer with three straight goals to close out the half. The Comets would net goals at 18:05, 26:33 and 34:41 to lead 3-1 at halftime.

The Thunder pulled within one just 4:25 into the second half as Reed found freshman Whitney Hodge (Hillsdale, Mich./Hillsdale) for the touch pass to also give Hodge her first career goal.

Later in the half it would be Reed scoring one for herself as junior Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) found Reed who put the ball home with just over 25 minutes to play in the game. Trine and Olivet headed to overtime for the first time this season for either team after neither team scored in the remaining minutes.

It didn’t take long for the Comets to get the game-winner as they scored just 3:11 into the extra frame on a header off a corner kick.

Senior Jamie Schnarr (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont ) took the loss for the Thunder after coming on in the second half and making three saves but allowed the game-winner in overtime. Sophomore Sloan Davis (Olivet, Mich./Olivet) was in net for the first half, making two saves and allowing the first three goals.

The three goals by the Thunder were the most they have scored in a game since a 6-2 win over Anderson (IN) on Sept. 5, 2011. For the afternoon Olivet out-shot the Thunder 18-12 but just 10-9 on goal.

Trine returns to the pitch on Sept. 28 when they host Albion for a 12 p.m. game.
