SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - - Three early goals coupled with a balanced team effort gave the Truman women’s soccer team a 3-0 shutout victory at the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) on Sunday afternoon.

Junior Trisha Shoemaker (Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Pleasant Valley) continued her torrid pace to start 2012, scoring her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the game’s fifth minute to put the Bulldogs (3-1) on top. Only two minutes later, senior Kelsey Twellman (St. Louis, Mo., Incarnate Word Academy) notched her first goal of the year, scoring on a put-back following a Shoemaker shot to make it a 2-0 Truman lead.

Then, in the 15th minute, senior Olivia Hayes (Clayton, Mo., Clayton) found the back of the net for the second time this season, taking a pass from freshman Megan Frkovic (St. Charles, Mo., Francis Howell North) and firing a shot into the top left corner of the webbing.

For the final 75 minutes, Truman maintained the majority of possession, out-shooting Sioux Falls (0-4) 12-7 overall and 9-2 on goal. The Bulldogs also earned eight corner kicks to none for the Cougars. Twenty-one total players saw action for the purple and white, with only junior keeper Emily Bozdeck (St. Louis, Mo., Lindbergh) and junior defender Kelsey Ridgway (West Des Moines, Iowa, Dowling Catholic) playing all 90 minutes.

Bozdeck recorded her third straight shutout by making two saves, dropping her season goals-against average to just 0.50 in nearly 363 minutes.

Truman starts MIAA play next weekend with home matches against Missouri Western on Friday, Sept. 14, at 4:00 pm and Northwest Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 1:00 pm.
