Tulsa Drops 2-0 Decision to UCF

October 27, 2016

The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to UCF on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  TU fell to 8-9-1 on the season and 4-4 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Knights moved to 9-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the league.

After the game, TU honored seniors Lana Bermel, Darienne Chapman, Sierra Krenik, Claire Maris, Annie Sohmer and Olivia Viergutz, as well as senior managers Katelyn Admire and Marleigh Essler.

“Not the result we wanted or the way we wanted to finish on senior night, but I thought the team kept fighting,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.  “Our goals are still the same, to make the conference tournament, so we are excited about Sunday and that will be our focus.  This senior group has done a great job for us all four years and has made an impact on our program.”

UCF’s Christine Creighton scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick taken by Julia Ekholm at the 30:54 mark and the Knights held onto that 1-0 lead heading into the break.  Morgan Ferrara gave UCF a two-goal cushion in the 51st minute as she picked up a pass, dribbled for 20 yards and took a shot from 20 yards out.

UCF had a 16-3 lead in shots, including a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.

Krenik had two of Tulsa’s shots, while Rachel Thun had the other attempt.  Rebecca Defer logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up seven saves.

Tulsa will close out the regular season against USF on Sunday, October 30.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
