Tulsa Drops 2-1 Decision to Kansas City

September 20, 2019

The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Kansas City on Friday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU fell to 5-4 on the season, while KC moved to 6-1-2 overall.

“We created some good chances, and that is what is disappointing, the fact that we outshot them and created opportunities to get a better result and we didn’t,” Head Coach Kyle Cussen said.  “Kansas City is a good team, but we have to be better in the final third.  We didn’t finish our chances, and we have to be more crisp.”

Ryan Childers put the Roos on the board with just 5:12 ticked off the clock off a forward pass from Amanda Simpson.  Halle Hamilton gave KC a two-goal cushion in the 29thminute as she dribbled up the left-hand side, shot from eight yards out and put the ball into the upper right-hand corner.

Emilie Torres got one back for the Golden Hurricane in the 34thminute, but neither team found the back of the net in the final 56 minutes for the final 2-1 score.

Tulsa had a 15-11 lead in shots, including a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal, while both teams had three corner kicks.

Reagan Whitlow and Torres both had a team-leading three shots, while Kayla Fernandez came in off the bench and added two attempts, and seven others had one shot.  Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up two saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 22 against Chicago State. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
