Tulsa Drops 3-2 Decision to Rice

The Tulsa women’s soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Rice on Sunday afternoon at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.  TU fell to 3-4-1 on the season, while the Owls moved to 3-2-1 overall.

 

Annie Walker put Rice on the board with just 2:31 ticked off the clock as she punched in a score from 18 yards out off a pass from Nia Stallings.  In the fifth minute, Jenny Fichera gave the Owls a two-goal cushion as she tallied a goal from 30 yards out.  Neither team found the back of the net for the remaining 40:47 of the first half as Rice took a 2-0 lead into the break.

 

Aliza Wolfe put the Owls up 3-0 off a pass from Walker in the 54th-minute, but Rachel Thun got one back for the Golden Hurricane in the 66th minute as she drilled in a goal from 14 yards out.

 

McKenzi McAdams added another score for Tulsa in the 89th minute off a pass from Thun, but time ran out before TU could get the equalizer.

 

Thun had a team-best six shots, four of which were on goal, while Tana Dake added three attempts and Valiree Morris had two shots.  Courtney McKeon logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up six saves.

 

Tulsa had a 14-12 lead in shots, while both teams had nine shots on goal, and TU had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

 

Tulsa will return to action on Friday, September 16 against crosstown rival Oral Roberts.  Game time is set for 5:30 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
