Tulsa Earns 2-0 Win Over UConn

The No. 2 seed Tulsa men’s soccer team earned a 2-0 win over No. 3 seed UConn in the American Athletic Conference Championship semifinals on Friday afternoon at Corbett Stadium on the USF campus in Tampa, Fla.  TU moved to 10-4-4 on the season, while UConn fell to 11-7-1 overall.

 

The Golden Hurricane will take on the winner of the #1 seed USF vs. #4 seed UCF game in the Championship on Sunday, November 13 at 11:00 am Central at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The game will air live on ESPN3 and tape delayed on ESPNU at 4 p.m. ET.

 

Juan Sanchez put Tulsa on the board with 10:12 ticked off the clock as he dribbled around a couple of defenders and shot from left to right into the lower right corner from 12 yards out.  This was Sanchez’ second goal of the season.

 

Matthew Puig recorded his eighth goal on the season as he picked up a pass off a combination from Juan Sanchez to Rollie Rocha and shot from seven yards out into the lower left corner.

 

UConn had a 14-7 lead in shots, while Tulsa had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, and both teams took three corner kicks.

 

Sanchez had a team-high four shots, all of which were on goal, while Puig, Munashe Raranje and Rocha all had one attempt.  Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up three saves for his 17th career shutout and sixth on the year.
