Tulsa Falls to USF, 2-0

October 6, 2016

The Tulsa men’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to USF on Thursday night at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla.  TU fell to 5-4-2 on the season and 1-2 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Bulls moved to 5-5-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.

“I thought at times our possession was good, but our final product wasn’t good tonight and it has to get better moving forward,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. “The conditions didn’t really affect the game and the wind wasn’t too bad, but it did rain the entire time.  We moved the ball well, created a few good chances, but just weren’t able to finish.  Overall the performance was pretty good, but we have to be better.”

With 10:04 ticked off the clock, Nazeem Bartman put USF on the board off a combination from Melvin Becket and Prosper Figbe, and then in the 38th minute Becket scored off a pass from Figbe to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead at the break.  Neither team scored in the second frame for the final score.

Tulsa had a 17-11 lead in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, and a 5-3 lead in corner kicks.

Lesley Nchanji and Zack Stavrou both had a team-best three shots, while Quinton Duncan, Matthew Puig and Jacob Gooden all had two attempts.  Jake McGuire logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up one save.

Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, October 11 against #10 Creighton.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
