Five second-half goals forced Tulsa and Oral Roberts to battle through two overtime periods before ending the game in a 3-3 tie on Tuesday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on the TU campus.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 7-4-3 on the season, while the Golden Eagles moved to 6-6-2 overall.

 

“Give our guys credit for coming from behind again late and not giving up,” Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  “We had lots of chances to score and did a decent job in the first half of being patient.  We didn’t start the second half very well.  ORU did a good job of putting pressure on us and we didn’t handle it well.  I am proud of the chances we created, but we have to get better in terms of conceding goals.”

 

Munashe Raranje scored his first collegiate goal and put Tulsa on the board at the 21:22 mark off a combination from Quinton Duncan and Lesley Nchanji.  He drilled in the score from 20 yards out and TU took that 1-0 lead into the break.

 

“It was good to see a couple of guys get their first career goals,” McIntosh said.  “Munashe started the game very well and had a tremendous finish with his left foot.  He has created chances for other people so it was nice to see him get one tonight.”

 

Matthew Rogers evened the score in the 63^rd minute as he punched in a goal off a rebound attempt taken by Colton Haskin that came off the post.  Issac Fraley put the Golden Eagles up 2-1 off a free kick taken by Santiago Riveros at the 78:11 mark.

 

Koray Easterling also earned his first collegiate goal for the Golden Hurricane as he one-timed a free kick taken by Vincent Pedace to tie the score at 2-2 in the 81^st minute.

 

Riveros once again put ORU ahead as he scored on a free kick taken from 40 yards out at the 85:18 mark, but Matthew Puig made it 3-3 on a penalty kick taken at the 86:17 mark.

 

The two teams battled through the two 10-minute overtime periods, but neither team found the back of the net for the 3-3 final score.

 

Tulsa had a 26-7 lead in shots, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal, and a 10-2 lead in corner kicks.

 

Puig had a team-best seven shots, followed by Nchanji with four attempts, and Kay Duit, Pedace and Rollie Rocha with three shots.  Jake McGuire logged all 110 minutes in goal and had one save.

 

Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, October 22 at Temple.  Game time is set for 6:00 pm Central at the Temple Sports Complex in Philadelphia, Pa.
