BUFFALO, NY - It was a game of mere inches Friday evening, with multiple quality attempts just missing its mark as the Buffalo Bulls (8-3-2, 1-2-2 MAC) dropped a 1-0 loss to Northern Illinois (2-9-2, 1-4 MAC). Despite a 20-16 advantage in shots, the UB attack was unable to score for just the second time all season.

"You can't really fault the way we played today, we did nine-tenths of what we wanted to do," said head coach Michael Thomas. "We connected passes, we created chances, but if you don't finish your chances you're going to come out on the wrong side of things. We just have to make sure we give this concentrated of an effort in all our games and good things will happen."

There were few advantages in the first half, with the Huskies challenging goalie Ainsley Wheldon early with four shots on goal that were all turned away. The UB offense was on its game as well, with Aubrey Stahl and Katie Roberts taking five shots and Sophie Therien taking a career-high four shots from long distance that each came close but not close enough.

After the two teams retired for the half, the second half started much the same as the first had, before Northern Illinois was able to capitalize on a corner kick. The Huskies put the corner right on goal, and Wheldon punched it down but was unable to possess the ball, leaving it vulnerable to an attacker in the box who put it home in the 67th minute to provide the game's only goal.

The team will regroup and prepare for Western Michigan to cap off the weekend, with an 11 am kickoff set for Sunday. The Broncos went into Friday with a 6-6 record and will provide another stiff challenge for the Bulls. Live stats will again be available at BuffaloBulls.com.
