UC Irvine women draw with Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. – The UC Irvine women’s soccer team (9-5-2, 2-2-1) tied Cal State Fullerton 1-1 in double overtime Friday night in Big West action at Titan Stadium.

Jennifer Smith sent a ball into the box to Christina Murillo who turned and sent the ball to the left post to put Cal State Fullerton up 1-1 in the 52nd minute. Freshman Dana Sanderlin (Upland HS) got a cross from freshman Devon Delarosa (San Diego/Rancho Bernardo HS) in the 78th minute tying the match at 1-1.

Junior keeper Danielle de Seriere (Cerritos/Mayfair HS) picked up a red card as she tackled a Fullerton player on a breakaway outside the box with 1:31 remaining in regulation. de Seriere had two saves in 88 minutes. Sophomore keeper Kala Gabler (Apple Valley/Hope International) entered the match in relief and had zero saves in 22 minutes of play for the ‘Eaters. Keeper Shannon Simpson had four saves for the Titans.

The ‘Eaters return home Sunday as they host UC Riverside at 5:00 p.m. in Big West play at Anteater Stadium.
