HAYWARD, Calif. - UC San Diego entered the final seven minutes of regulation nursing a narrow edge, but came away with a difficult 2-1 overtime loss to Cal State East Bay in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women’s soccer match Sunday at Pioneer Stadium.

With a third successive defeat, UCSD dropped to 3-4-3 overall and 2-3-3 in the CCAA. East Bay improved to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in league play. The result marked the Pioneers’ first-ever win over the Tritons, with UCSD having taken all six meetings prior to Sunday, including all three in Hayward.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelcie Brodsky made a pair of point-blank saves early, first from Megan Ravenscroft at 5:30 and then again on Bekah Anderson at 7:00, before Triton junior Kylene Hill saw her attempt come off the post in the 10th minute.

In the 16th minute, UCSD was first onto the scoreboard. All-American Cassie Callahan (Coronado/Coronado HS) sent a high delivery into the 18-yard box, where fellow junior Izzy Pozurama corralled the ball and shot accurately to the left side for her second on the year. It was Callahan’s team-leading third assist of 2013.

Pozurama had tallied the unassisted winner 1:47 into the second overtime period in the most recent match-up of the teams, also at East Bay, last Oct. 26 as UCSD overturned a 2-0 halftime deficit. Callahan had scored the 79th-minute equalizer in that 3-2 decision.

With just over six minutes remaining in regulation Sunday, the hosts generated their equalizer, as Danielle Cummings placed her header from an Ariana Gordon cross over Brodsky’s reach for 1-1.

Andrea Hernandez then ended it at 91:48, making a long individual run before firing from the right side into the upper corner. The goals were the first of the season for both Cummings and Hernandez. Gordon’s assist was her team-best third. East Bay began the day with just four goals in eight matches in 2013.

Brodsky wound up with four saves on the day, pushing her over the 50 mark for the year, now with 53. Donna Williams made three stops between the East Bay posts.

The teams were credited with taking 12 shots apiece in the contest.

Having concluded a season-opening stretch of six of 10 games away from home, UCSD will now play seven of its final eight regular-season contests in La Jolla, beginning with a critical date with South Division leader Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. at Triton Soccer Stadium.
