LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's soccer team got goals from three different players, all underclassmen from San Diego County in freshman Mary Reilly (Chula Vista/Hilltop HS), sophomore Katie O'Laughlin (Carlsbad/Pacific Ridge School) and freshman Megumi Barber (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS), to defeat Cal State East Bay, 3-1, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action Friday night at Triton Soccer Stadium.

The contest was played in front of a season-high 791 spectators as UCSD students finally returned to the La Jolla campus this week for the new academic year.

UCSD, which had lost back-to-back 3-2 overtime decisions at home, improved to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA. East Bay fell to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Senior Kelcie Brodsky needed to make just one save in the UCSD net. Pioneer starter Katelyn Oshima had five stops before suffering an injury on the second Triton goal and giving way to Amanda Valentine, who saved a pair of shots.

UCSD held a significant bulge of 24-6 in shots taken, including 15-2 in the first half.

Redshirt sophomore Maxia Espino (Chula Vista/Hilltop HS) drew her first start of the season and second of her career in central midfield. True freshman Kelsey Kimball earned a college debut as a second-half substitute.

UCSD now leads the all-time series, 8-1. The Tritons have won each of the five meetings in La Jolla, out-scoring the Pioneers, 16-3, thanks largely to 5-1 triumphs in 2011 and 2014.

The visitors opening the scoring in the 14th minute when Laura McIntosh slipped a pass on the ground down the left side, and Megan Ravenscroft ran onto it before producing a narrow-angled, left-footed shot low into the right corner for her team-leading fourth goal.

It took UCSD a little more than six minutes to answer. Sophomore right back Aimee Ellis lofted a cross from the right side to the far post, where junior Jamie Benedetto headed the ball back across. Reilly gathered on that right side, took a quick dribble and found the target to Oshima's left for her then-team-best third at 19:40. Both Ellis and Benedetto were credited with assists, their first and second, respectively.

O'Laughlin, who celebrated her 20th birthday on Thursday, would then provide what proved to be her first career game-winner, at 54:29. Junior co-captain Kiera Bocchino played a forward pass that Reilly deftly laid off for O'Laughlin, who streaked ahead before slotting home to join Reilly atop the UCSD goal chart at three apiece. Reilly and Bocchino were each awarded assists.

Barber's insurance goal, her second on the year, came in the 79th. Bocchino's crossed from the left, and Barber shot right-footed at the near post and found the back of the net. It went down as a second helper on the night for Bocchino.

Just 3:39 in, O'Laughlin passed to Reilly, who forced a fingertip save with a dive to her left by Oshima, out to a corner kick. In the 16th, O'Laughlin nearly equalized as she got her head to a left-sided cross, with Oshima making another difficult stop. Espino, who had scored her first career goal from a free kick just five days prior, took another from deep toward the left side in the 38th, and found the crossbar. The ball in fact ricocheted off Oshima and out for a corner kick.

At 52:00, Reilly cut into the penalty area from wide on the right and took a shot that appeared to glance off the outside of the right post.

UCSD comes to the end of a season-long five-match homestand this Sunday, Sept. 27, hosting first-place rival Stanislaus State (6-1-1, 2-0-1 CCAA) at 2 p.m. The Warriors won 1-0 in double overtime at Cal State San Marcos on Friday afternoon. The Triton men start things off at 11:30 a.m. Admission into Triton Soccer Stadium is free.
