LA JOLLA, Calif. - Katie O'Laughlin registered her first collegiate two-goal brace to trot the UC San Diego women's soccer team out to a 2-0 advantage after an hour, but Cal Poly Pomona came back to level the score with 110 seconds left in regulation, before winning it in overtime on an own goal.

Friday's contest at Triton Soccer Stadium served as the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener for both sides.

The tough-to-swallow result left UCSD at 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA. CPP moved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Senior Kelcie Brodsky made three saves in goal for UCSD. Sophomore Ricki Ives had four stops for the Broncos. The Tritons finished with a narrow 14-12 edge in shots.

CPP's winner at 96:21 came from nothing, as Rachel Killigrew simply lifted a hopeful pass from deep on the left. Brodsky came out to get it, but the ball bounded off the head of unlucky freshman left back Louisa Alstot, and bounced into the empty net.

The afternoon had started off so swimmingly for the home side in what was ultimately a highly-competitive and entertaining affair for the spectators on hand.

At 35:23, O'Laughlin tallied her first on the year. Megumi Barber (San Diego/Mt. Carmel HS) found fellow freshman Summer Bales on the left wing. O'Laughlin met Bales' cross at the near post and hit the back of the net from close range. It was a second assist for Bales, with Barber gaining credit for her first career helper.

O'Laughlin, out of Carlsbad (Pacific Ridge School), then completed her brace at 59:53. Fellow sophomore Jordyn McNutt (San Diego/University City HS) played her into space down the left side, and O'Laughlin had ample time to set herself on her right foot, size up her shot, and bang one into the upper right corner from just outside the penalty area. McNutt’s assist was her second of 2015.

The Broncos began their comeback less than seven minutes later. Killigrew's right-sided free kick was met with an accurate header at the foot of the far post by Megan Kisslan for the senior defender's team-best second goal.

Hailey James then provided the unassisted strike to draw even at 88:10. The junior gathered a loose ball and unleashed a wicked right-footed shot from distance on the right side, which sailed into the upper left corner beyond Brodsky's reach.

Earlier, CPP had a great opportunity to get on the scoreboard first in the 16th minute. Melissa Martinez ran onto Lauren Miller's pass over the top and shot from straight on at goal, but right at Brodsky, who was able to parry the ball away. James was first to the rebound, but couldn't navigate around Brodsky, either. Then in the 24th, Triton freshman Mary Reilly (Chula Vista/Hilltop HS) put forth a right-footed effort from the left diagonal, but Ives went down to her right to keep it scoreless.

UCSD continues both conference play, and a season-long five-match homestand, this Sunday, Sept. 20, hosting Cal State San Bernardino. Kickoff at Triton Soccer Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m., with the men's teams following at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
