UNC Wilmington men tie VCU
October 21, 2010
RICHMOND, Virginia – UNCW goalkeeper Brandon Miller recorded his second shutout of the season, but the Seahawks were unable to notch a goal for themselves as they posted a double-overtime, scoreless draw against VCU on Wednesday.
The Seahawks moved to 7-4-3 overall and 3-1-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association while the Rams stand at 5-2-6 and 2-1-4.
UNCW stayed in second place with the point and now trails front-runner William & Mary by four points. The Tribe edged James Madison, 2-1, on Wednesday in Harrisonburg, Va.
“VCU is a talented team,” said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. “They have played well at home this season, so to earn a point is valuable in the standings.”
Miller needed just four saves to record the clean sheet. In his first shutout of the season last week against Northeastern, he fashioned 12 stops.
Miller’s opposite Josh Pantazelos made two saves on the evening.
VCU held a narrow 13-10 advantage in shots, but the Seahawks had five corner kicks to VCU’s three.
UNCW has now gone 359 minutes since their last goal.
The Seahawks close out their regular season home schedule on Saturday with a 7 p.m. start against Towson.
