USL: Players to watch on MLS second teams
Ten of the teams in the USL Championship serve as second teams for Major League Soccer squads.
MLS franchises have leaned on the league in significant fashion to develop players.
But they’ve also offered up competitive sides to go with it: Real Monarchs, which is a team owned by Real Salt Lake, won the USL Championship in 2019. New York Red Bulls II won the 2016 crown, while Sporting KC II (previously known as Swope Park Rangers) and LA Galaxy II have made title game appearances.

That being said, most teams serve as a platform for younger players to have a platform to develop. Whether that player’s been acquired via the draft or the team’s own academy varies, but there are a multitude of players on various MLS second teams to track this year.
